On August 31, 2026, Silueta X Association discovered another forced entry at its office located at Carchi and Padre Solano streets in Guayaquil. The complaint filed with Ecuador’s Office of the Attorney General was registered as No. 090101826084751 for robbery committed through force against property.

The initial report lists five desktop computers, two televisions, two bazooka-style speakers, approximately USD 300 in cash, merchandise belonging to entrepreneurs, and other items still being assessed. Silueta X states that the incident occurred approximately two weeks after another robbery at the premises, when part of an air-conditioning unit was stolen.

The central issue is not to assign blame without evidence, but to investigate the context

Silueta X has made clear that it is not attributing responsibility to any individual, political party, movement, authority, or institution. Its request is that investigators determine whether the incidents are isolated property crimes or whether there is evidence of intimidation, retaliation for activism, hostility toward LGBTIQ+ people, harassment of human rights defenders, or possible politically motivated persecution.

What we are saying is that two incidents in a short period against an organization publicly identified with the defense of LGBTIQ+ rights cannot be normalized. It is for the authorities to investigate whether these are isolated property crimes or whether there is a pattern of intimidation, retaliation, or persecution related to our work.”

Why the impact goes beyond the value of the stolen items

The Silueta X office provides community support, psychological therapy, free legal counseling, case documentation, social organizing, and rights advocacy. The stolen computers and other equipment were tools used for client support, campaigns, archives, document production, and the coordination of activities.

That distinction matters. A break-in affecting a human rights organization can also interrupt access to services for people facing discrimination, violence, or vulnerability. This is why the organization is calling for immediate measures to restore operational capacity and reduce the risk of further losses.

What Silueta X is asking authorities to do

The organization has requested that the Prosecutor’s Office and National Police identify those responsible, review public and private cameras in the area, preserve available recordings, carry out forensic examinations of doors and locks, trace stolen equipment through serial numbers and resale channels, and consider Silueta X’s context as a human rights organization if the evidence supports additional motives.

The emphasis is on an evidence-based investigation: no hypothesis should be treated as a fact before it is substantiated, but relevant hypotheses should not be dismissed simply because the theft involved property.

A call to international allies, media, and civil society

Silueta X is asking media outlets, national and international human rights organizations, LGBTIQ+ groups, public institutions, international cooperation agencies, companies, and members of the public to remain attentive to the case and help preserve a community space that has taken years to build.
